It Is Open, Has Been Open for a While…

October 16, 2007

Ok, it has been open for over a week now. And it takes me this long to get a proper update. Anyhow, on October 4th Tomorrow opened as the main exhibition of Platform – Seoul (website coming soon), a neighbourhood contemporary art festival put on with the participation of galleries, art centers and museums in the Bukchon (北村) neighbourhood of Seoul. It was a splendid party where we were tremendously honoured to have in attendance around 20 of the participating artists, sponsors, local and foreign gallerists, and the generous hosts of the exhibition the directors of Kumho Museum of Art and Art Sonje Center. On the 5th the public opening was enhanced by a very well attended symposium put on by the Korea National University of Art, Art and Society. In the days that have followed, there have been artist talks by Jan Christensen, Shimabuku, Tadasu Takamine, Democracia, Cao Fei and Xijing Men. There have also been very well attended video screenings of works by Cao Fei, and from Pompidou Center’s New Media Collection. This last Saturday Etienne Sandarin, curator of the Pompidou’s New Media Collection gave a talk as well. Coming up this weekend we have:

Sunrise at Mt. Artsonje 2

September 19, 2007

Sunrise at Mt. Artsonje_2007_Shimabuku
On Sunday the 16th about 10 people hiked up to the roof of Artsonje Center for a nice cuttlefish breakfast. While on the rooftop, the initiator of the hike, Shimabuku, used a shiny uncooked cuttlefish like a heliograph to communicate with people in the neighbourhood.

Sunrise at Mt. Artsonje 1

September 15, 2007

If there is no rain on the morning of Sunday, September the 16th Berlin-based artist Shimabuku will host a hike up Mt. Artsonje. At the peak (or rooftop) participants will watch the sunrise while enjoying specially prepared cutlass fish. If you are interested to join please meet us at 5:30am in front of ArtSonje Center, Seoul, South Korea. If it is raining, we will probably go up the next day.

TOMORROW

September 12, 2007

This is the first post of the un-Official website of the Tomorrow project, which begins with an art exhibition entitled Tomorrow that will take place at Seoul’s Artsonje Center and Kumho Museum of Art between October 4th and November 4th, 2007.

In its inaugural manifestation here in Seoul Tomorrow is not your typical collection of objects in a museum. It is a multi-media contemporary art exhibition with more than a month of public programmes including a film programme, symposium, artists talks and various other events including a sunrise breakfast hosted by Japanese artist Shimabuku. On this page I will be making periodic updates of Tomorrow happenings and events. So, stay tuned! To know more about where Tomorrow comes from and what its about take a look at the About page.
